Orthopaedics started as an art transferred from one generation to others in family of bone setters. Orthopaedics has literal meaning of straightening child with deformity. Nicholas Andy coined the term ‘orthopedie’. Orthopaedics, as of today is developed to have certain subspecialties. 


Orthopaedics is divided into two broader aspects hot and cold. Hot aspects deals with trauma to musculoskeletal system. Cold Orthopaedics deals with various congenital, developmental, neoplastic, infectious, paralytic, degenerative and mechanical ailments of musculoskeletal system.
